Catching up

05 July 18

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying this heatwave, personally, I love it! It's been a little while since my last post, in fact it was just before we jetted off to Portugal for a working holiday. We had a really great shooting out at the Cosyfeet factories, which is in a small town called Lousada about an hour from Porto.

The factory also run their own brand called Portside - the factory is incredibly organised and impeccably clean, we had a great few days there and we were most welcome, even though we were disrupting production to some extent. I've been working through a mountain of images and footage over the last week or so since our return and it's all coming together nicely.

In other news, I've been working quietly on a new project for an international brand which started a few months back, although I can't really say too much about it - it's really great to be involved and am really enjoying working on it.

Gig-wise, everything is now confirmed for my 6th(?) - it may be the 5th... Looe Music Festival in September, which is always a great weekend - lets hope the great weather keeps up! I'm also confirmed for MJR's Bristol Skyline Series with Future Islands in a couple of weeks and there's a local show I've applied for which would be amazing to get, although the line-up hasn't been confirmed as yet - I want it to happen!

I still hope to have some news about another new venture pretty soon, I think this one could be a slow burner though - I'll keep you updated!

Portugal Planning

01 June 18

I said goodbye to a bunch of equipment in the post this morning - as in just over a weeks time I'm flying out to Portugal to shoot at the Cosyfeet factories just outside Porto in a little place called Lousada. Briefed with a variety of film and photography tasks while we're there it looks like it will be a busy and exciting few days! I'll be posting a few BTS pics on Instagram - so if you don't already follow me there, please do!

One of the main tasks is to produce a heritage video, bringing to light the quality of the Cosyfeet production processes from concept through to final product, really looking forward to getting stuck into this project.

I'm heading to Portugal with Daisy (who, 1 year today - I'll be marrying!) and once we're done shooting, we decided it'd be a good chance for a bit of a break so we're heading out to the coast for a few days of sunshine and cocktails (fingers crossed!)

Britrock must be destroyed!

26 May 18

It was HOT and sweaty last night in Motion/The Marble Factory, Bristol! Reef, Wildhearts and Terrorvision on the bill...alongside Dodgy who played early and I unfortunately missed as doors opened at 5pm! The photopit was pretty full for the second to last night of the 8 date Britrock Must Be Destroyed tour but I was pretty happy with some of these, despite sweating buckets running around on the balcony to grab some nice angles of the stage.

I've shot Reef a few times before, there's always the trademark mic swing and a couple of high kicks, even after 25 years of Reef you can tell they absolutely still love playing live! It was the first time shooting Terrorvision (who didn't play Tequila! ...what's that about?) and Wildhearts - while both entertaining, and the crowd loved it, they weren't too dynamic to photograph.

Motion was packed, with sweat (and beer) dripping from the rafters.

Gotta feel for the lady under his arse.

New Balance for Walktall

18 May 18

Shooting for a recent catalogue for Walktall, one of the concepts I came up with was for a pair of New Balance 910v4, a trail runner. This was to sit on a spread with one other lifestyle image along with a bunch of cutouts, the catalogue is only 8 pages - so space is tight! The spread shows this shot, cropped much tighter to give the shoes the most impact on the page. I'm really pleased with this shot, using natural light on a May afternoon, meaning the sun is starting to drop down in the sky creating nice long shadows.

I wanted a location to suit these shoes, with the rise in popularity of ParkRun, this style of running shoes known as trail shoes are becoming more and more popular - so showing them on feet, on location was important in this image. This image is incredibly versatile as it can be cropped to fit a variety of very different uses.

We shot for about an hour on this shoot, the light was fantastic, dappling as it came through the leaves and overgrowth - out of shot to the left is a circular reflector bouncing the light back on to the subject, and that's all I used to light this. Processed with Capture One Pro 10, I raised the shadows a little and controlled the highlights a little.

During this shoot, I thought it was important to show some of the details of this Trail running shoe, most people shopping for this style of shoe will be looking out for certain things like the tread and ankle support. We'll use shots like this on consumer emails where we have the space to really highlight some of the great features of this shoe.

One last thanks to N-Photo Mag for giving me such great coverage in the May edition - let me know what you think of it!

More news coming soon, Will

N-Photo Feature

11 May 18

Yesterday on May 10th, I got my hands on N-Photo issue 85, if you take a close look at the cover at the bottom, there's a reason why N-Photo is a little more exciting than usual...they were kind enough to give me a double page feature!

The feature focuses on my work with shoes. Now, I'm not totally sure about the footwear fetishist comment, but I can see why they might have thought that. I'm quite proud of this, it's great to think that the people at N-Photo have shown such an interest in my work. If you want to see more about my work with shoes, pick up a copy or head over to

Click the image below - it'll take you over to Instagram where you'll see the moment I picked up my copy!

Thanks, Will

Feature Friday

27 April 18

Time to look back at an older image. This shot is from Looe 2016, the top of the Helter Skelter proved an amazing spot to look down on the crowd on the beach. It's worth noting that 2016 has been the only year to feature the Helter Skelter among the festival entertainment, thus making this a unique opprtunity to get this may never happen again.

Looking back through the 2016 event reminded me of some other shots I really liked from that weekend and they've now been added to the Event and On Stage galleries. This particular shot could be up there with my favourites from my time shooting at Looe Music Festvial as the opportunity may not arise again, it's a great angle to capture the crowd from - saying that, there aren't many festivals you'll be able to shoot an angle like this, are there?

If you look towards the front of the crowd, there's actually a guy stood on someones shoulders (great effort) - whilst on stage is Ferocious Dog who's a joy to photograph!

If you're quick, I've currently got a poll running on twitter - I'm trying to decide the best gallery to land on when entering my site, it's currently set to land on the Commercial gallery - is this right? What do you think? I'll annouce the results at the end of the poll over the weekend.

Thanks for stopping by, Will

Follow on Socials

13 April 18

Social media is massive these days, and I need to up my game! As Facebook is looking more and more like wasted effort with their increasingly complicated algorithm, I've quietly said goodbye to that page with minimal updates - soooo.... take your pick from Instagram and Twitter! Thanks to everyone who decides to hit that follow button.

N-Photo feature

13 April 18

I'm happy to annouce that I have a double page feature in N-Photo magazine issue 85, due out in just under a month on May 10th - the day before my birthday! Big thanks to Adam and Jason at N-Photo for this, I'll be sure to post the artwork as soon as I get my mitts on it! It's based around my work in the footwear industry, I sent over a bunch of images and answered a lot of questions for them, can't wait to see how it all comes out.

New domain!

11 April 18

Welcome to the new domain, is up and running, woo hoo! Any old traffic to will be redirected here! I'll be reorganising my galleries along with a few other tweaks here and there under the hood.

I'll still be running I Shoot Shoes alongside this - but after talking to a lot of people in the industry, I've it's best decided not to keep updating Oh-Kay Music Photography, for now - as exciting as the little venture is, I've figured my time is best invested in, so unfortunately it will be on the backburner for a while, but it's not bad news as I'll still be doing all the same work and it'll be much easier to keep up with everything, as in the words of Toys 'R''s all under one roof!

20 March 18

A new day, and another new website for me, a little confusing I know, but here's a tune to welcome you all along.

This site brings a fresh look and a fresh new approach to things (again) - I'll get round to explaining as I launch this!
